Who sees what

Worker (and fellow workers in the same room)

Can see: Own messages and rooms.
The pseudonyms of people in rooms they joined.
The public registry of recognised bodies.
Own case files with a body.
Cannot see (by design): Real names of others (unless someone chooses to show it).
Members of rooms they are not in.
Who contacts which representative.

Representative body

Can see: Workers who contacted it or joined its spaces, under their pseudonym.
Content in its own spaces and case files.
Its own posts on the representatives' feed.
Cannot see (by design): Peer rooms of workers.
Members of other bodies.
A list of all of a platform's workers (there is none).
Which platform someone works for, unless the worker shares it.

Platform

Can see: That it gave every worker a code.
Whether the channel is available and meets the service levels.
The figures it supplied itself.
Reports from an independent assessor.
A report only if the worker sends it to the platform.
Cannot see (by design): Message content.
Who uses the channel.
Who contacts which body.
No figure at all about use (concept — to confirm).
No admin rights, no button to have anything removed.

polder.tech (and independent moderators)

Can see: Pseudonymous accounts and whether each is eligible.
Which spaces exist.
On the pilot technology, also who is in which room.
Short-lived technical logs.
Moderators see only what a participant reports.
Cannot see (by design): Message content (end-to-end encrypted by design; to be reviewed independently before launch). Exception: a consultation the worker opens. There polder.tech reads along.
Workers' real names.
The platform's worker records.

Regulator and state

Can see: Nothing by default.
A public, delayed usage report across all platforms together (concept — to confirm).
Cannot see (by design): Message content: we do not hold it, except what was said in a consultation with polder.tech.

We do not give data to immigration or labour authorities unless a court or the law orders us to. We publish how often that happens.

Language

Your language is separate from your country and your platform.

Your name per room

By default you are only your pseudonym everywhere. Per room you can choose to show your name. You switch it on in the room itself, under ‘Settings for this room’.

In announcements and in 1-to-1 chats you always appear under your pseudonym.

Privacy on your phone

Show message previews

On. A notification shows who wrote and what. That text is decrypted on this device.

How does this work?

Someone sends a message in one of your rooms. It is encrypted on the sender's device.
The server only sends your phone a signal: there is something new. No sender, no text, no room name.
Your phone fetches the encrypted message and decrypts it itself.
Only then does your phone show the sender and the text. In a sensitive room, or with ‘Show message previews’ off, it only says ‘New message’.

Demo: this tab is already connected, so the signal is not needed. If the tab is closed, no notification comes.

Sensitive rooms

In a sensitive room a notification never shows the sender, the text or the room name. Conversations with a representative are on by default.

App lock with PIN

A different PIN from your phone.

The app is then called ‘Notes’ on your home screen.

Representatives

You do not get messages from representatives.

Look at bodies

Your devices

Phone lost or taken? Remove it everywhere.

One press. The phone is then removed from all your accounts, bodies and rooms.
